Saving money with a garden…?

I live in an apartment building with no room to plant, so I have a small container garden on the patio. Each tenant is limited to 4 containers, so I planted 2 containers of zucchini, 1 green pepper plant and one cherry tomato plant. I’m really looking forward to some nice fresh produce!

I had visions of walking through the back door with a bushel basket overflowing with produce. However, I don’t own a bushel basket, and so far I have one oddly shaped green pepper growing and one branch of my tomato plant has 7 green tomatoes and the rest are empty. The zucchini plant has blossoms, but no zucchini yet. I know this because I keep walking out there and staring it down – willing it to bear fruit.

I guess I’m so used to being able to walk into a store and pick things off the shelf that I need to develop the patience to watch my little garden grow. It’s just as well that my zucchini hasn’t grown yet, I’m out of olive oil!

  1. I had an idea to add to your sight. I am leaving for vaotcian Saturday. Dilema .what to make for dinner till the big day. Tonight I looked in the fridg and realized I had lots of fresh vegies. Hmmmm so , I made a pasta dish. I fried garlic, onion, artichoke hearts, cherry peppers, zucchini, summer squash in olive oil and a little white wine. I boiled rotini pasta and when done drained and mixed with vegies and oil. Topped it off w/ grated romano cheese, S & P and a dash of red pepper flakes. There was enough to feed me and my husband tonight and our lunches tomorrow. Nice tasteful and healthy dish. Then off to the Keys !
